Welcome!
What is the 4th Dimension?
The 4th Dimension group hosts audio real time Cocaine Anonymous (C.A.) meetings using VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology. We are one of many different meeting groups of C.A. online.
Our meetings have the traditional format of a face to face meeting of C.A. with readings from our literature and formats such as speaker/participation or discussion on a topic. Our primary purpose is to stay free from cocaine and all other mind-altering substances, and to help others achieve the same freedom. We use the Twelve Step Recovery Program, because it has already been proven that the Twelve Step Recovery Program works.
The 4th Dimension group was originally formed by so called "loner members" who live in parts of the world where C.A. is either limited or non-existent but the meetings are open to any who wish to participate. You may be new to the idea of recovery and wondering what C.A. is but have not been able to attend a meeting for whatever reason, be it hesitancy or geography. This may be the perfect stepping stone for you.
When are the meetings and how long do they last?
At present there are 4 meetings a week set around the world to accommodate different time zones. Each meeting runs up to one and one half hours. With this in mind the meetings are as follows:
If all of these different time zones confuse you, not to worry. Those of us who have been doing it awhile can also be "time zone challenged." If you're not sure, we'll help you figure out what your local time will be at the start of any meeting.
How do I join a meeting?
If you have a Skype address (available from www.skype.com) then follow these steps:
- Search for and ask to be added to “the.4th.dimension” OR “avision4you164” - our two host site names.
- Be online 10 minutes before the meeting starts and send an Instant Message to “the.4thdimension” or “avision4you164” asking to join the meeting.
- Set your Skype status to the "green" online icon (as in yep, I'm here and awake) and pick up when the host calls.
- You will then be in the meeting. Enjoy and welcome!!!
If you have a different VOIP provider or none at all please email our greeters and we will work out how to get you connected.
Will joining the group cost me any money?
No, joining the group is free. There are no dues or fees associated with joining any C.A. meeting. However, if you are using certain technologies to access the meeting there may be some charge from your provider. It’s good to research that beforehand, but we do have members who are logging into the meeting on their cellphones for minimal charges/minute.
The 4th Dimension Group will occasionally pass what is known as the 7th Tradition basket. The 7th Tradition is our guide to remaining self-supporting through our own contributions. You may contribute as much or as little as you wish like. The monies are used to support our Area, the Online Service Area, as well as the Cocaine Anonymous World Service Office (CAWSO). The 12 Traditions are to the group as the 12 Steps are to the individual.
Are there any rules?
No, there are no rules; but to help the meeting run smoothly here are a couple of pointers.
- It’s good 'netiquette' (politeness) to mute your microphone when not sharing or reading. This cuts out feedback or background noises.
- If you lose the connection to the meeting, Instant Message the group and the host will call you back. You cannot call into the group.
Do I need to do anything once I am in the meeting?
No, it’s up to you if you wish to share. Please feel free to do so. If you just want to sit back and listen then that's fine, although you may want to introduce yourself.
